How does heaven look according to the bible
What love-work will we do in Heaven, then? We will complete the very love-works we are meant to do on Earth. There are only six things that never get boring on Earth, six things that never come to an end: knowing and loving yourself, your neighbor, and God. Since persons are subjects and not objects, they are not exhaustible; they are like magic cows that give fresh milk forever. The two great commandments that are our job description for life, in both this world and the next, express this plan: We must love God wholly and we must love our neighbor as ourself.
And in order to love we must know, get to know, as endlessly as we love endlessly. This never gets boring, even on Earth: getting to know and love more and more someone we already know and love.
It is our clue and our preparation for our eternal destiny of infinite fascination. George Macdonald answers this question with a counter question: "Will we be greater fools there than here?
This is a divinely designed, essential part of our joy. We are not designed to be solitary mystics, lovers of God alone, but to be, like God himself, lovers of men and women as well. Just as Jesus on Earth loved each person differently and specially—he did not love John as he loved Peter, because John was not Peter—so we are designed to love people specially.
There is no reason why this specialness should be removed, rather than added to, in eternity. Our family and special friends will always be our family and special friends.
In this life a child begins to learn to love by loving mother, then father, then siblings, then pets. The concentric circles of love are then gradually expanded, but the beginning lessons are never abandoned.
There is no reason to think God rips up this plan after death. What Will Heaven Be Like? Our eternal home is a real place John where we will reside in real, physical bodies 1 Corinthians 15 and where we will experience everlasting joys, rewards, and treasures Matthew ; Matthew ; Luke God dwells there Revelation and the light of Jesus will permeate every corner of this place Revelation The fact that our all-knowing, all-powerful Creator will dwell with us and we shall know him in an even more intimate way should be sufficient for the true Christian to rest assured that they will be satisfied there, but the Bible gives us many other glimpses of what this place will be like.
Eradication of evil. Picture your favorite place on earth. Now imagine that place completely free from any of the unpleasantries that make you feel sad, uncomfortable, or anxious.
Perfect righteousness and justice reign supreme. Every shred of evil has been completely eliminated and, instead, will be the opposite of anything that causes displeasure. Perfect health, joy, and pleasure. Lovers of God will find that the pleasures of heaven eclipse their wildest imaginations 1 Corinthians Perfect friendships.
There will no longer be any hint of pride, insecurity, jealousy, discrimination, or competition — nothing that would hinder the sweetest Christian fellowship.
Think about a time when you felt deep love and respect for fellow believers. Now imagine that love and respect being completely untarnished by any ounce of sin on their part or yours. Learning and growth. While our knowledge will greatly increase in the eternal state 1 Corinthians , there is no reason to conclude that we will become all-knowing. William G. The infinitude of things can be known only by the Infinite Mind.
Meaningful work. Will we be reunited with our pets? Will I see my dog in heaven? But based on what we know about God, it would not be inconsistent with the Bible for God to reunite us with our pets. If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
In it, I look at the throne-room scene in heaven. Heaven is a reflection of who God is and what He looks like. I believe the Bible offers that through the value that God puts in us — in this life and in the one to come. You described very well the disconnect that many people have with heaven. Everything that we can enjoy in this world is limited because of sin, brokenness, and death. In the age to come, we will be able to experience life without those limitations.
Our body, mind, and emotions will be completely fulfilled. The invitation of God is to not wait for heaven, but to begin to live for Him and with Him today.
